Woodbury 8th-grader headed to Carnegie Hall
Carter Bannwarth, an eighth-grader at Lake Middle School in Woodbury, will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 1.
Bannwarth will be on stage with a company called Camp Broadway for the New York Pops 34th Birthday Gala. Also on the stage that night? Matthew Broderick, Nico Muhly, Brian D’Arcy James and Minnesota’s ownEagan-girl-gone-Broadway and Tony-nominee Laura Osnes.
Camp Broadway is a theater- arts program for children. Camp Broadway’s 60member cast, which includes Bannwarth, was selected from a national audition of more than 500 amateur performers, according to a news release. The performers will make their Carnegie Hall debut atthe culmination of a threeday rehearsal featuring master classes in vocal performance, dancing and acting.
The Camp Broadway kids come from 25 states and 57 different U.S. cities, as well as Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Bannwarth is the only Minnesotan on the company list.
